We have been so lucky to live in one of the prettiest places in Utah! Our bedroom window faces right to Mt. Timp and American Fork Canyon. Over fall break we went up with some of our friends and took some family pictures. I think they turned out great and cost a total of $6 (the fee to get up the canyon). After we made a fire and had some hotdogs and s'mores. What a perfect day!

Molly! Molly came into our life yesterday! Kaden LOVES dogs! So when the opportunity came for the exact dog we wanted for free, we took it! She is a full bred shih tzu a few years old and already potty trained! Last night was our first night with her and she was awesome. So far I haven't heard one bark, (the only new noises has been Kaden squealing in delight!) there have been no accidents, and no chewed on toys. The best thing is that she is hypoallergenic, so it shouldn't bother those with allergies, doesn't shed and is the calmest dog I know. Even when Kaden yanked on her tail there was no bite, not even a nip. We are sure glad she joined the family! And I have another girl on my side! Even if she is a dog.

Our little Kade-Man turned one on Tuesday! He is such a wonderful kiddo, We're so glad that he is in our family! It's hard to believe that a year ago he was in the NICU and now he is a happy, healthy, growing boy! We had his 1 year check up today and he is:

20.8 lbs (35th %ile)
31 inches (85th %ile)

tall and skinny!

He eats everything, loves milk, loves playing with friends, loves teasing and giving kisses. He walks, jumps, waves, says mama, dada, ball, light, yes, up, one, and banana.

He loves Lightning McQueen, golf balls, blocks, pillows, soft blankets, cheese, bananas, spaghetti, french fries, green beans, apples, peaches, pears, sandwiches, and CAKE!

We love when he is playful and teases. He is such a people watcher and is concerned when others are upset. Loves to be in the conversation and center of attention.

We sure love our little guy! Happy Birthday Kaden!!!

New Addition in the Brown Home!

I know you thought it was going to be a baby, but check out this baby! Our neighbor had a garage sale last week and we bought this pretty baby for a steal of a deal! The amazing thing was that every part was there and working perfectly, no scratches or anything, they even had the original balls to go with it. We've had a lot of fun having it in our house as you can see. When the basement is finished it will go down there, hopefully with an air hockey table or pool table as well. And I have to admit, Jimmy is a rock star when it comes to just about any sport or game, and I have yet to beat him still, but it will happen some day... just you watch!

So I know I posted forever ago about our landscaping and house projects over spring break and I still haven't done an update on that post, and this is not one either, but, as I mentioned before we planted blackberries and we ate our first blackberries today! They were so sweet and yummy, not tart.

Well Kaden had his 9 month well baby check up on his 10 month birthday (long story, not gonna tell). He is growing perfectly (as the doc said) The arc on his growth chart is pretty darn steady! Here are his stats:

Weight- 18.8 lbs (14th %ile)
Height- 28.25 in (32nd %ile)
Head- 17.7 in (30th %ile)

Tall and skinny like the doc said. It's really amazing to see where he used to be when he was born and where he is now. He's tripled his birth weight, and his head circumference was only 4th %ile! (which I was grateful for pushing him out!) I can't believe that he is going to be 1 in two months!!! He has grown into such a personality. My favorite things that he does is jumping in his crib when I go to get him, his look of concern if anyone is crying, playing "face bomb" diving into a soft blanket/pillow, and dancing!

In the last month he has been:

Months that is! Our little cutie Kaden is already 9 months old! We couldn't get in to the doc till the 21st so we'll get measurements later, but here is what he can do!

He can:

He sure seems like he is growing up so fast. His personality and looks are still a blend of both mommy and daddy. He is so happy and excited to be with people. At church last week we were sitting in the back row and he climbed up to see the people in the back and was smiling and laughing and clapping for them and holding up his arms to go over there. We were laughing so hard it was so cute and funny!

As a teacher spring break means a whole lot more than a week off a school. It means 6 more weeks after that is summer break! I can catch up on all the things that have been put on the back burner. We aren't going anywhere but I am so excited for what we are doing...

Kaden's 6 month appointment was last week. He was weighed measured, and shot :( But his latest stats are...

Height-26.5 in (48%ile)
Weight- 15.9 lbs (18%ile)
Head Cir- 16.5 in (8%ile)

We are a go on solid foods and he is loving everything we've given him. He can't wait to move on to fruits! And this past week he's been talking a little more. You know the dada, mama, baba's of baby language. But it is so cute! And for your viewing pleasure....

Kaden turned 6 months yesterday! He is such a cutie and we just love him. Our doctors appointment for him isn't till the 14th, so we'll give you stats then. But at home he is:

Sitting up-Hurray!
Sleeping 8-12 hours a night! and 2 hour naps morning and afternoon. We love it!
Rolling all over- Seriously how does he get there!
Scootching- I'll have to post a video on this one, it's hilarious
Laughing & Joking- He laughs all the time and when we're nuzzling his neck making him laugh he'll do it back to us!

Loving oatmeal, rice and wheat cereal, and just started green beans and loved it!
(Which I figured since I craved those when I was prego and would eat it all the time!)

I love my job. I love the kids that I teach, the faculty I work with, and the fact that they are so family friendly. I don't think that the population realizes the work that teachers do. I remember it was so weird to see my teachers outside of school, but I made the realization that teachers are normal people too.

Well kind of normal.

I don't think a normal person would be under attack by the government, and parents constantly. Nor would a normal person work for less every year ($2,000 less). I don't think normal people would be ok with constantly putting out fires, teaching all curriculums, and 30 kids, 10 of those having health issues, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, and the rest of them telling you their every worry, excitement and dream. And would do all of these things while making less than a cashier at Costco.

But, I didn't write this blog to complain, I wrote this blog cause I am sad. I lost one of my students today. She has moved under sad circumstances, to another district. I feel like a piece of me is missing and I can't stand looking at her empty desk. She is as teachers would say, "A perfect student" and a wonderful little girl with so many hopes and dreams. It was sad to loose her. I know that she will blossom and shine in her future. I'll never forget that sweet smile!

As I said, I love my job, I love my "kids". I hope that someday, mom's and dad's, community leaders, and screwed up politicians can understand what I do and support me in it. I hope they realize that I only have 4 waking hours with my own child to spend 9 with yours. And I love them almost as my own and do my best to teach them things you can't/don't/forgot. I am teaching the future of our world. Do you realize that? Do you realize that my job is to help shape our future? Do you realize how valuable that is? And I do it, because I love it. I love seeing the light bulb go off. I love seeing a child grow. I love helping them learn and be confident, to become their own. And hope that one day they think, "I learned that in third grade because my teacher cared about me. "

4 months and counting

Kaden turned 4 months last week and had his well baby doctor's appointment yesterday. He was tough through all of the measurements, pokes and prods. We are so grateful he is healthy and happy! Here are some stat's and cute pics!

Weight: 14 lbs. 13 oz. (36%ile)
Height: 24 1/2 in. (31%ile)
Head Circum: 16 in. (17%ile)

He is steady as can be on his growth charts, sleeping all night, looking around and reaching for things, recognizing us when we are talking, talking (cooing) up a storm, sneezes like daddy, smiles and laughs like crazy (although he doesn't perform for the camera), holding things, holding up his head, and so close to rolling over, sitting up with a little help, and loves standing when we hold onto his hands. We are so blessed to have this little guy in our life!

We had a wonderful Christmas and great new year despite all the sickness at our house ;)

We love getting together with family and friends and spending time with our own little family.

We had a beautiful tree this year, even when it died 2 weeks later, we still enjoyed it while it lasted. We'll make sure to water it more next year. Kaden was mesmerized by it! We had lots of family gatherings and lots of sleeping in!

Our ward Christmas party was really fun. They do a Christmas breakfast instead of the traditional ham dinner which was really fun. Santa and his elves were there and so Kaden got a picture with Santa but was a little too tuckered out to tell him what he wanted. But Jimmy got to tell Santa what he wanted...Can you guess?????

We made gingerbread houses with our friends Jeff and Elise. Didn't they turn out awesome! I love Elise's cute pink and red house. We are so glad they are our neighbors!

Kaden slept great Christmas eve and woke up around 8am after Santa came. He just learned to grab and pull earlier in the week so it was really fun helping him open his presents.

For New Years we actually stayed up till midnight this year. We went to our neighbors for their party and then went home a little early to celebrate the new year on our own with a little sparking white grape juice.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holidays, reflecting on the Savior and being together. If I know this is a little late, but I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday as well. Merry Christmas!!!

So I am finally catching up with the blog and my new year resolution is to get back on top of everything, even if it takes getting up at 5 AM to accomplish it! To finish our Halloween post I finally found our picture with our costumes this year. Kaden was the next All American playing for BYU and we were his crazy coaches from the 80's. Doesn't Jimmy wear the 'stash well?

Shortly after Halloween Jimmy went into surgery. It was a routine exploratory surgery, since we had exhausted all avenues to find out what was this lump in his abdomen causing back pain. After checking in, getting in a gown, an IV and shaved 2 hours later the surgeon came out to tell me that his appendix was bad, and was infecting some of his surrounding tissue and organs. Turns out he had Chronic Appendicitis for the last 3 years. Crazy, I know, but if you would like you can look it up here.

It was the worst recovery we had ever experienced together. They drugged up Jimmy so much post surgery that I had to wait an additional hour after surgery to go in and see him. He still doesn't remember the first 3 days after surgery, and is a little foggy of the two week period. Many people stepped in and helped me during the recovery, thank you all that helped us out during that time.

My brother Thomas came for a visit. It was so fun to see him and Kaden finally got to see his uncle Tom! (If you include Skyping, then I only have 7 more siblings who have yet to meet Kaden)

On the 11th of November, I celebrated my 25th Birthday! Quarter of a century. Looking back I've loved the past 25 years and am thoroughly looking forward to my next 25. I've always wanted pearls, and Jimmy got me a beautiful set of pearl earrings, necklace, and bracelet. We had a family party and enjoyed my favorite Coke Cake!!

We had a very yummy Thanksgiving with some of Jimmy's family and loved having a bit of a break from school. Some how I didn't get a pic of the family and the spread, but Kaden really wanted to eat his blanket for his Turkey dinner.

The day after Thanksgiving Jimmy's friend Michael Skarda got married! We drove up to Salt Lake for the wedding, and dinner. It was beautiful and they are so happy and in love. It was great to be a part of their happy happy day!

I have been super busy being a mom to my baby, nurse and wife to my hubby, housekeeper, and teacher all while trying to get back into shape and some sleep.

This break I will do my best to update you with Halloween, Jimmy's surgery, Kaden's 3 month, almost 4 month, Thanksgiving, my birthday, Kaden's Blessing, and Christmas. Don't worry I haven't forgotten you all, I'm getting there, I promise!

Growin' like a weed!

Kaden had his 2 month check up last week. I can't believe my baby is growing up so fast! He got all his immunizations :( He did really well until a couple seconds after they stuck him...then he realized what was going on and did not like it. He calmed down quickly and was only a little uncomfortable from the effects of it for a day or so.

Kaden now weighs 11 lbs and is 22 1/2 inches long! I always thought my babies would be huge because of my sisters, but I like my little guy. Doc says that he is developing, and growing great and that is what we like to hear. Kaden now is more attentive and tracks with his eyes really well. He loves to look at fans and lights and of course his toys. He goes to sleep around 8pm and wakes up at 2 am and then at 5 am right on time to wake me up to go work out.

We love his smiles and funny faces, and can't wait to see this little one grow!

Halloween!!

My favorite holiday (besides Christmas) is Halloween! It was so fun to dress up as a family this year. We were having a hard time coming up with something but ended up with Kaden as a football player, and Jimmy and I were his coaches from the 80's :) Kaden and Jimmy came to school and we walked in our school's Halloween parade on Friday. Sadly they didn't last for the party but Kaden was pooped and went home. Kaden and I went to my sisters for a Halloween party that was awesome, and Saturday was filled with carving pumpkins, dressing up, going to a ward party, and trick or treating (we just walked with Kaden's cousins) and visiting family. That night we It was really fun and we can't wait for next year!

One Month Birthday!

Hi! I'm Kaden, and I turned one month old on October 6th. Mom was busy at parent teacher conferences but we celebrated when she got back! I really liked the cake (a few hours later). I've been busy growing, eating, eating, and pooping! We've visited family and friends, and had a lot of people come over to help us out. You guys helped Mom and Dad so much, Thanks! We've gone to see my doctor and he says that I'm healthy and growing great! We even went to visit the doctor who delivered me. He rocks! At home I really like baths because I like to go swimming! I really like my brown blanket that is really soft, so much that sometimes I sleep for 5 hours at night. And I always make sure to say my prayers! I eat a lot! Sometimes I get a little gassy after and it hurts, but then I'm happy again. Mom thinks that it's really cute when I smile or laugh in my sleep. I've given her a couple smiles when I'm awake too, but not a ton yet. I'm really good at pushing up with my legs and swinging my arms when I'm mad, and I really like to hold my head up for a little bit and look around when Mom or Dad is holding me. Sometimes when I'm eating from a bottle I can prop the bottle up myself! I especially like walks in my stroller so I can see outside too. I can't wait for Halloween. We're still trying to decide my costume this year, because Mom and Dad want to dress up as a family. Do you have any ideas? I just had my first photo shoot today and we are excited to get the pictures back soon! I sure am cute!

He's Here!!!- The Stats

Kaden John Brown was born a little early on Labor Day, September 6th at 3:47 AM. He weighed 6 lbs, 6 oz, and was 20 in long. We are grateful and happy he is here! He gave us a couple of scares, but after a week in the NICU with some wonderful doctors and nurses we are happy to report that he is healthy, happy and home! I would write you the story now, however, it's not your typical delivery story so it's gonna be a book. See the upcoming post for the detailed story :)

He's Here!- The Story

THE APPOINTMENT:
My pregnancy has gone pretty darn good up until my appointment on Aug 31st. My blood pressure was just a little higher than normal. Because of this we scheduled another appointment for the 3rd for a non stress test, fluid level check and re checking of the blood pressure levels. That Friday at the appointment, the non stress test went great. My blood pressure was borderline, and my fluid levels weren't dangerously low, but still lower than the doc would have wanted. So, he said "We can induce you today or wait the weekend and check everything again on Tuesday. Even still you're not going to last to next weekend." HOLY MOLY! I was not expecting that. We weighed the pro's and con's and agreed that the baby could benefit from cooking a little longer in the oven. We left the appointment, ran to Walmart to get some last minute baby items, ran to school and finished up some sub plans and headed home with the warning to keep my feet up and if I had a headache that would not go away with Tylenol, to go in and get checked.
Alas, I didn't follow doctors orders exactly and sure enough that headache came on and after the BYU game we headed to the hospital to get checked.

THE CHECKING: We went to the hospital at 9:30 (after the game ;)) All the tests came back great except for my blood test which was 7 points too high indicating the comings on of preeclampsia. So I was admitted to the hospital at 12:30 Sunday morning to be enduced.

THE LABOR: I had the cervadill for 12 hours and then they started pitocin at around 1:30pm.

My contractions weren't bad but were getting worse so I called in for the epidural and in the meantime, since I was only at a 2, the doctor broke my water, which sent my contractions soaring!!! The baby didn't respond too well to that and his heartbeat dropped dramatically and we lost it for a couple of minutes. Their was an all call and they were ready to take me for an emergency c section when my doctor saved the day, stopped the contractions and all 6 IV's I was on, put a probe in his head to mark his heartbeat and went in there with his hands and manually stimulated the baby to get him back. Thankfully his quick acting worked and we just left progressing the labor on hold for 2 hours till baby got stronger and stable. When they did put me back on pitocin, they started it and progressed it a lot more slowly (and I had an epidural by then) to make sure that the baby wasn't in distress. I progressed well and there were no problems and so when I got to 10 I started pushing. 30 min later baby was out! He wasn't breathing for several minutes but the respiratory therapist worked his wonders and got our baby breathing great!
I didn't tear like others do, just slightly internally. My doctor even chuckled when I asked if I did, and responded, "not really". He was amazed that for my first baby my labor went so well (with me anyway).

THE RESULTS: So Kaden John Brown was born on Labor Day, September 6th, at 3:47 AM he was 6 lbs, 6 oz, and was 20 inches long!

After he was out he went to the nursery to get cleaned off and fed (I fed him a little when he came out) so we could rest. After eating 30 ml his blood sugars were still pretty low and they were concerned.

THE HOSPITAL STAY: Kaden's levels stayed too low and this kept him in the NICU for a week. He had a slightly high CRP level (thick blood) but after testing it twice it was in an ok range to not thin out his blood. He was put on an IV of dextrose to get his sugar levels in the 50+ range. He did great at first so we started weaning him off the IV, but on his last test the levels tanked so he went back on the IV, we weaned him off more slowly and keep him feeding. During this his biliruben levels were too high so he was sent under the blue lights to break down the biliruben. After a day and a half of lights they got back down to normal and after slowly weaning the IV his blood sugars stabilized so we were finally able to take him home on Saturday morning. It was a tough week emotionally and physically for all of us. He was poked, prodded and had blood drawn in every way. He even had to have an IV put in his head after he pulled it out of his arm, but he was a trooper the whole time hardly cried at all compared to the other non NICU babies in the nursery, and has recovered well.

We are grateful to have this little guy with us and will always love and appreciate all of the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff that were with us through this time. And thank you for reading our very long story!

This past weekend Jimmy and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary! Being on a Sunday we had dinner and a movie on Saturday to celebrate. It's been a crazy, fun, hard, wonderful, best 3 years of our lives. I couldn't have asked for anyone better to share this life with. During the move into our house we (I) lost Jimmy's wedding ring, so I bought a temporary replacement till we find it or get another that we really like. But I love that he really wanted to get one, instead of use it as an excuse to not have to wear it. Me being pregnant and swollen fingers I haven't worn my ring all summer and it's very different not to have them on. But a marriage of course is more than just two people wearing rings. We're committed to each other eternally, and what a blessing! We've been through a bunch of stuff in our last 3 years, and I wouldn't have gone through it with anyone else. I love Jimmy so much. As we were talking the other day we discussed how our life really began when we met each other, and we have never been happier than with each other the last 3 years. I love you baby! Happy Anniversary!

When ever you choose to visit Utah, consider the Brown Hotel as part of your stay! We finished our guest room and it is now my favorite room in the house!! As most of you know we love Hawaii. It's the greatest place on earth where you are happy and feel the spirit of Hawaii. We wanted to have others feel that way. We have our shells, grass skirt and a calming ocean blue for you to enjoy your stay. Soon we will update with bamboo and a complimentary beverage and snack service. We want to add some other things to make it more comfortable like a mini fridge, and TV but we'll have to wait for that one. We still think it's great! We hope you enjoy your stay!

I have about 1 more week of school and things are wandering down fast! I can't wait for summer to start so I can focus more on the house, baby, and sleeping in! We've been working on painting our house and the colors are beautiful. We'll be heading to Parade of Homes again this year for more ideas! In the meantime we're getting the paint up as we can. I can't wait till the painting is finished so we can finish decorating and setting up. I'll post pics as they come.

My sister Christine had her first little one today. And, Jimmy and are I the lucky ones that got to see him when he was just 3 hours old. It's amazing. He was born at 4:18 PM, Weighed 7 lbs 13 oz, and was 20 in long. He does not have the Lehnardt nose, does have the Earl chin and we're waiting to see how the rest comes out. :) Isn't he a cutie?!

So, I realize that I haven't posted for a while. We have been busy and tired. In the last 3 weeks we bought a house, moved, have been cleaning and slowly moving in. All of the moving in has gotten us tired so we've been taking our time and napping in between. Our neighborhood is awesome and we love our new neighbors and ward! We feel like the young ones now instead of the old ones ;) After we moved, Jimmy's sister Tiffany got married so there was a lot of temple and family stuff that we devoted our time to. We are so happy she is married and welcome her to the happy married club :) We are so excited for all of the changes in our life and I promise that I will blog more, with pictures for all to enjoy at a later date. In the mean time we're picking paint and planning projects that you will all hear about soon! Our New Home!

We never though that it would happen so soon but we are buying a house!!! We've been looking and looking and found one that we simply could not pass up! Our inspection was done on Friday and we are just waiting to find out when we close but we'll be moving in this month! The house is a 4 bedroom 3 bath in Cedar Hills. We'll be sad to leave our Provo friends but they can always come visit ;) It's 5 minutes away from my school, and right by American Fork Canyon. We are so excited to be homeowners and have our own place, with a yard and basement and garage! So look for our house warming party announcement!!!

Update: The inspection went well, and the house has been appraised, looks like we're going down the home stretch now! We may possibly close as soon as mid next week. Here are some pictures we took while the home was being inspected~

The Happenings at the Brown Home

Whew! We have been very busy here at the Brown house. My parents (Amy's) are leaving on their mission on Monday and so we have had some wonderful family time. On Friday we met up with my parents to see our future house while it was being inspected. Then on Friday I was busy getting ready for my sister baby shower. Saturday afternoon was so fun getting decorations up and food and games ready for her. It was even better to have the family gathered sharing laughs stories and motherly wisdom. Sadly I forgot to take pictures but it sure was fun. Saturday night we went out to a family dinner to Bombay House! I love their food and unlike my favorite sushi the baby liked the Indian food! While we were there we ordered some Mango and Strawberry Lassi and I ordered a root beer, unfortunately they didn't hear the "root" part and brought out a frosted glass with my beer. It was funny! Don't worry it was sent back for the root kind of beer. Then today our family went to church together and after we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Earl home with yummy Hawaiian haystacks, chocolate cake and lots of laughs!

My parents go into the MTC tomorrow morning. I am so proud of them for going on a mission. We are jealous and want to go to Madagascar with them! But we'll blog and email our adventures and we'll hear theirs as well.

Gardening Already?!?

So, if any of you didn't know, Jimmy has the biggest green thumb I've ever seen. Unknown to many he is a certified arborist and knows just about everything about plants from the scientific name to the simplicity of the colors and where it grows best. We have always enjoyed doing a little garden ourselves, and since I showed him how easy it is to germinate seeds quickly in the winter so you actually get a harvest in the short Utah growing season, we've been starting super early! And today he was proud to bring home a 50lb bag of dirt and seeds! I think that it's a little crazy starting this early but he has a point. I do look forward to the fresh strawberries, tomatoes, green beans, corn, peppers, etc...that we get to eat come summer. Hopefully it is a great one this year with no wind storms to ruin it.

The New Place!

Jimmy and I loved our old apartment but we get a little stir crazy sometimes, and a wonderful opportunity came up for a new apartment. We thought we'd give it a shot, but up our contract to sell, and sold it in a week so again we had an unexpected crazy move but we went from 2 bed/1 bath, to a 4 bed/ 2 bath for a hundred dollars less! We didn't need all of the space but the extra bedrooms make for a great craft/man cave and storage room and now guests don't have to use our bathroom, they have their own. We miss our big living room and private patio, but our kitchen, and laundry make up for that. So now we live 3 blocks north and get to be neighbors with good friends, a lot of BYU single girls, and especially this one :) We've been here for 3 months now and love it! Thanks to everyone that helped us in the process to get in here! And here are some pics for anyone who hasn't been here, and if you live around here and haven't been here, you should stop by we'd love to have you!

Football isn't quite a religion in our house but it is a big deal. When Jimmy got season tickets for the BYU games this year he bought them with a friend of ours and they were rotating seats. They got so excited when they found out their seats for the BYU Utah game was on the FRONT ROW! So before the game we went all out and painted faces and spray painted hair. It looked great! It's a good thing we did too because come third quarter at about the ten minute mark after the review Jimmy and Jeff were on camera! Woo Hoo! At the end of the win they were in great spots to run out on the field too. It was a great game! Go Cougs!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year! I am grateful we have such awesome family around to have it with. We all went over to KJ's house to eat, and it was all yummy! The appetizers were amazing and we got pretty full on that so we barely put a dent in all of the food. Poor Jimmy got really sick right before dinner and had to lie down for the festivities. He didn't get to eat any of the yummy dinner. After we ate we played games (yea!). I was so grateful that some wanted to play. I love playing games but haven't since getting married. Slowly but surely our game closet is getting bigger and Jimmy is playing more games with me. We also watched Aliens in the Attic. The kids loved it and laughed at all the right parts which made movie more fun for me the second time. It was a great day and a fun evening. I'm so grateful for Jimmy, and my Heavenly Father who loves us so much! Happy Thanksgiving!

Graveyard Cake

Jimmy and I had a great Halloween. We were Capt'n Jack Sparrow and his first mate and had a blast! (Pictures to come) We made our traditional graveyard cake it is a very fun tradition in the Brown Family Household and the recipe was requested. And so, for your enjoyment as well as ours...

Halloween Graveyard Cake

2 1/4 C Oreo Cookie Crumbs
1/2 C Sugar
1/2 C Margarine (melted)
1 8oz pkg Creak Cheese
1 12oz pkg Cool Whip (thawed)
1 pkg Orange Jello
1 pkg Candy Corn and Pumpkins
1 pkg Milano Cookies (or other oval cookies)
Colored Frosting for decorating
Green Sprinkles for decorating

Directions:
-Mix 2 cups of cookie crumbs with 1/4 cup sugar and 1/2 cup melted margarine. Press into 9x11 pan and refrigerate till cool.
-Beat cream cheese, 1/4 cup sugar till smooth, then add 1/2 container of cool whip and blend together.
-Spread cream cheese mixture over cookie crumb layer covering all edges, and refrigerate.
-Make Jello till slightly thickened and spoon over cream cheese layer. Refrigerate till firm.
- Spread remaining cool whip onto Jello and refrigerate.
- Decorate with remaining cookie crumbs and green sprinkles for dirt and grass. Add tombstones and decorate like a graveyard.

Hungry for more ideas that is. I may have just blogged about my sister's yummy french breakfast puffs, but I am way bored with my dinner menu. I feel like I've done the same things over and over, so now I'm not really making anything. Because of that we are eating out more, or eating at home but not as healthy as flavorful home cooked dinners. So, I beg, I plead, if you have any good dinner recipes that you are willing to share, please share with me!

Conference French Breakfast Puffs

I love conference weekend! You get to sleep in and listen to the prophets voice and eat yummy breakfasts! Thanks to Roslyn I got to add French Breakfast Puffs to the tradition. I enjoyed eating these yummy creations when I visited Roslyn when I was in college, and now I get to enjoy them myself. As you can see they were very yummy! I didn't even get to take a picture till half of them were gone! If you would like to enjoy these yummies yourself, I've added the recipe:)

French Breakfast Puffs (By: Roslyn Beckstead)

1/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
~3/4 c. milk

*Preheat oven to 350.
*Cream shortening and sugar.
*Add egg and mix thoroughly.
*In separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and nutmeg.
*Stir in flour (in about three parts) alternately with milk (in about three parts). Stir gently, after each addition, until just combined. You can add more or less milk to get a good muffin consistency. Do not over beat or over mix. (This is probably where I don't get it right, since I make sure my baking powder is fresh)
*Pour into greased muffin tin about 2/3 full (it should make 12, but I usually make 9 since mine don't usually turn out).
*Bake about 20 min. or until golden brown.
*While baking, melt 6-8 Tbsp butter in a bowl, and make ~1 c. cinnamon sugar in a bowl (1 c. sugar + 1 tsp. cinnamon, or however you like it).
*Immediately after the muffins are out of the oven, roll in butter and then in cinnamon sugar and set on a plate.

Our first DIY and then we moved

So Jimmy and I had an amazing opportunity that we just could not pass up. There were some openings in the Fleur de Lis apartments for $50 less than what we were paying. So we put our apartment up for sale and signed the contract for our 4 bed/2 bath place. In order to move we had to finish our kitchen cabinets that were started back in November. So we bought some paint and trim, fixed some of the tiles and wah lah! Our beautiful kitchen.

For our first Do-It-Yourself, on limited budget, with improper tools and work area I think it turned out great! We probably won't be doing another DIY for a while, but the experience was good, and now we know that when wanted or needed we can re-create a beautiful kitchen. And to all you future Do-It-Yourself Projecteers, if I could do it you can do it! We sold our contract in exactly a week and moved into our new place! and we love it! (more pictures of our new place to be posted as soon as we are unpacked...:)

Labor Day Weekend & Swiss Days!

I love being a teacher, and I love all of our days off! This labor day weekend started like all. The Brown girls head up to homestead resort for a getaway weekend and Swiss Days! I was more excited this year than last, I wasn't pregnant and I was so looking forward to the break! Tiffany and I drove up on Friday after work and met the other girls there.
We walked around a couple of aisles of booths before heading over to our hotel room. I finally remembered my swimsuit and after dinner I finally got to the hot tub and swim in the pool a little bit. Tiffany, Angie and I climbed up the gazillion stairs to the top hole of the crater and enjoyed "only looking" down the deep dark hole. That night we all went to bed and I slept like a baby, even without Jimmy, which means I was really tired. The next morning we got up and saw the inside of the crater in the daylight. It was so awesome I told Jimmy I wanted to go snorkeling there for my birthday. Then we drove over to Swiss Days and I thoroughly enjoyed my strawberries and cream breakfast and hit up all the rest of the booths. There was so much awesome stuff! I only wish I had a house to put it all in. I blew my budget and spent double! But Jimmy requested that I do so, so it was alright. I got a couple of things for a future baby, our house and my classroom. At the end of the day we had our last caramel apple and BBQ dinner and headed home after one last look at the booths. Tiffany drove me home and I came to a house full of cougar fans. I made it home with just enough time to watch the amazing legendary 10 minutes of the game. Today we have been relaxing and went for a drive up the Alpine loop. What a beautiful weekend!

Summer is now gone. School starts tomorrow. Except for the copier at school not working, the start is pretty uneventful. I'm here at home waiting with Jimmy for his scan, when I should be at school getting ready. I wonder if I have everything? Did I forget something really important that I should know about? Did the parents like me? But then I remember, I know how to do this, and I have wonderful people to help along the way. I love teaching. I can't see myself in any other career, and I'm grateful that I have been able to teach the last 2 and now my 3rd year. My school is awesome, my principal is awesome, my colleagues are awesome, and it's going to be an awesome year! Go Freedom Falcons!

2nd Year Anniversary

So this post is a week late but I just wanted to say Happy Late Anniversary. It was 2 years ago on a very hot 25th of July that Jimmy and I became sealed eternally. It has been an awesome 2 years. I was at Jimmy's work the other day and a co worker of his said, "How did he get so lucky to be with a beautiful girl like you?" I wonder the same thing. How did I get so lucky to be with a beautiful, amazing hubby like him. I feel so blessed that Heavenly Father helped us get together. Happy Anniversary Jimmy! 2 years down, eternity to go! Jimmy and I were so excited to leave T mobile and now live in the world of Verizon! We love it! And we love our new phones! We got the new LG ENV touch for a steal!!! Camping!

Jimmy and I love to go camping, but rarely do so when the ward has it's annual ward camp out... We're There! We had a lot of fun camping despite the allergy attack. It was a beautiful location in the Uinta's next to a river! We set up our tent, cooled off in the river, had a yummy dinner, and played games all night! Sadly our camera didn't take a ton of pics but it was wonderful!

*just a note, the s'mores were yummy, jimmy's eyes are swollen from the previously stated allergy attack...poor guy.

Jimmy and I got back from the Lehnardt Family Reunion last week. We enjoyed the views our our room of the National Rocky Mountain Park in Estes Park, CO. We were there for about 3 days and went to the pool, hiking, mini golfing, played Frisbee golf,enjoyed a campfire, s'mores and made crafts. Jimmy went to the annual brothers golf tourney and came in behind 2 of our brothers in law. It was really fun to be there and coming from a family of now 42 spread from Washington to Georgia, we don't get to see each other very often so we love it when we can.

So Jimmy took me on my first "real" mountain biking adventure. We were just going up Rock Canyon in Provo. It was fun in the beginning and then we had to walk our bikes. After walking we took the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and I biffed it! That's right, I wrecked! I didn't know how to maneuver quite right, hit a rock and flew over the handle bars. Jimmy ran to my aid as I cried, but after a pep talk I got back on and we finished our little ride. It hurt, I'm icing and neosporining right now, but I'm still happy we went and feel a little bit in pain but tougher :) Maybe next time I'll really conquer the mountain!

My sister in law Tiffany loves me so much that she took me to Lagoon with her for FREE! I haven't been there since I was 14! I love going on roller coasters and have been on some of the fastest, but Lagoon was really fun, and it was great having sister to sister in law time without Jimmy :) My favortie rides were Wicked, and Samurai.

As a side note, Jimmy propagated a ton of tomato plants and they need homes. If you or anyone you know wants a tomato plant, let us know!

Mizzurah!

Jimmy convinced me and we found cheap tickets so I went home for a quick weekend. It was really fun and a surprise to my nephews and nieces. We had so much fun going to the pool, visiting my grandparents house for the last time, and visiting the Truman Library, and devouring my sisters Udderly Deadly Pecan Pie till I got sick(true southern cookin´). Most of all it was wonderful just getting away and spending time with family.

This game ¨hit the spot¨ always was the coveted game. I don´t know how many times we crouched around each other, cheering or laughing at the other player whining for our turn. Sadly the picture does not show that I hit the spot, it was placed there What great memories!

I´ve swam, almost drowned, and had many pool parties at this pool. It´s strange that the next generation is there now. They made this awesome spray park instead of the kiddie pool as their latest update. It was fun! Yea the pool!!!

So I realize that my summer time started over a week ago, when this post should have been posted, but it's been a busy week and a half! I totally had fun during my last week of school.

There were so many activities, and the kids were way excited for summer break (as was I!). After school got out, I started the summer relaxing with Jimmy and loving every minute of it!

We got tickets to Parade of Homes,

bikes for fun bike rides,

we participated in a "mock disaster" for our BYU stake and were prepared!

finished out the ward's intermural softball season,

we've been on lots of walks/jogs and seen some great movies!

We were lucky that Jerry and his family could come out to visit for a while, and were grateful to see them! Happy Birthday Misha!

took a trip back home to Missouri (more pics to come), and a summer reading class for teachers.
It's been a fun week and a half, and I must say a better start than last summer. I love being a teacher!

mmm...strawberry jam :)

So a while ago I bought some strawberries from my favorite grocery store, Sunflower Market, and I also got some strawberries from Mom Brown. Jimmy and I were too busy to eat them as soon as we should have, but not to busy to make some homemade jam! I had just enough for the quick version. After some phone calls to my mom, a box of pectin, and advice from Jimmy (the old jam maker), I started the jam. I was kinda nervous when making it because of others horror stories of the jam not setting and such. After everything, I was a lucky one and created some yummy yummy strawberry jam! Of course I had to make homemade bread to go with it! Sadly it is almost gone now, but it made our tummies happy as you can see! Hopefully in the future when we have a normal size kitchen, and cabinet space to match, I'll be making a lot more jam and a variety of it too!

I found this poem last year as I was trying to find something for my students to make for their mothers. My mom has been the best mom who has cried and laughed with me, listened and been patient with me, taught and scolded me. I love you mom!

And, to Jimmy's mom who is so wonderful and raised an incredible man, who loves me everyday! (I'll let him write more about her) I love you mom!

Fern McGarry Hatch November 6, 1915- April 20, 2009

Last week my Grandma Hatch passed away. I was sad to see her go but so excited for her to see Grandpa again. She was 94, still living on her own, and in darn good health! Her funeral was this weekend. There were many cousins, uncles, and aunts. It was wonderful to connect with them as we celebrated her life. It was very sweet to hear all of her stories again. She was the most kind and generous person I know. She could always be seen with a mint for a sore throat, cough, breath freshener, snack, or sweet treat. And she always had a tissue for a cold, runny nose, tearful eye, trash for gum, or anything else you could have imagined. She loved her family so much, even if it included slapping their hand away from the food :) Her love of education was instilled in me. She was one of the driving forces for me to work hard and graduate quickly in a field I loved which turned out to be teaching as well. I loved when my grandpa would crack a joke and they would laugh till they were teary! And I loved how tenderly they would sit by each other and hold each others hand. She was an amazing woman and I wish I could be a little like her someday.

Zion

For spring break we went down to St. George to go camping at Zion National Park, it was an adventure to say the least :) We did get a chance to attend a session at the temple, and then our plans sort of fell apart after that. The campsites were full, and we finally found a place to stay for the night after searching forever. We had planed to hike Angel's Landing, Jim's favorite hike there, but with time constraints we ended up driving the tunnels, and walking up weeping Rock trail in Zion National Park. It was really pretty, and really fun! Later we saw our nieces and nephews who were down in St. George on vacation for their spring break too. And we did of course swing by In-n-Out Burgers...OK maybe twice ;)

Easter!

We went to our sister's home in Springville, and had a little Easter dinner and egg hunt! The dinner was amazing, and it was fun watching all the kiddos find their Easter eggs.

Our Garden!

So we wanted to get a good start on our garden this year, we were a little late last year and didn't quite benefit from everything we planted because of it. So we started our herb garden in a miniature greenhouse! Amy had this wonderful plan that wouldn't take up much space and it worked out really well! The first picture is the herbs and a few flowers in the little greenhouses, and the second pic is of the herbs transplanted for their first time. We also bought a few vegetable plants so that we could get a longer season out of them, Amy did a really nice job with the layout this year.
If you can see the strawberry plants in the corner, last year we did a wonderful job feeding the birds with them, so we got a little more creating and build a little bamboo structure around them with bird screen. so hopefully this year we will have some wonderful strawberries to eat!

Conqured the Y!

So, I have lived in Utah for 6 years now. I have 8 siblings that have graduated from BYU (me not being one of them :) GO AGGIES!), and before moving to Utah I've traveled many a time, and hiked many a trail, but none of those trails was the famous hike to the Y....until....April 11, 2009!
Jimmy wanted to enjoy the rainy weather, and since his ankle is healed enough he decided to hike the Y and I went with him. Holy cow that thing is steep! We had a lot of fun, got to the top and slid in the mud down! I would be more than happy to do it again!

Out with the old, In with the new!!!

After sleeping on our mattress on the floor for 5 months, we found a great deal and bought a new bed! As you can see from the old bed it was sagging horribly which shows how the "guts" of the bed were out of shape! It's our first new furniture purchase and we love it!!!

Yeah Rugby!!!

Yesterday I had my first Rugby experience. I was fascinated by the Tri, and Scrum, and line up when they pass the ball back into play and catch it by lifting up 200 pound men in shorts! Even though I am a USU Aggie, BYU played a great game. I couldn't help but laugh when the Utah fans in front of us were cheering for their team when they got a tri and the score went from 38-3 to 38-8 (still in the first half). Go COUGS!!! Hopefully Jimmy is feeling better to go watch the Cougs beat the Aggies. I'm not sure what team I'll be cheering for but I know it will be fun!

A Valentine Day, Birthday Day, and Hero Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Jimmy surprised me in the morning when I woke up to beautiful roses, much needed Mountain Dew and a journey of reminicing through our love story. It was a wonderful day even though I was sick in bed for most of it. It was 2 years ago on February 4th that Jimmy and I met at a ward volleyball game, and despite the many ups and downs, it's been an incredible journey. I love you Jimmy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY!

Two days after Valentine's day, we celebrated Jimmy's 31st birthday! Again it was celebrated being sick at home. I managed to get up the energy to make a Jello cake, and I'm glad I got his presents early! We had a fun and relaxing day though, just like he wanted.

I love you Jimmy. I'm grateful that I'm blessed with someone as wonderful as you in my life forever. Thanks for keeping me up, and loving me so much! I'm such a lucky one!

AND.... Hero Day!!!

Every once and a while my school (even though it's an elementary school) has School Spirit Days, and a different theme is picked each time. I admit spirit days have been more fun since Jimmy is working there with me. The theme picked was heroes, and as you can see we chose Wolverine, and Rogue, from X-men. Maybe not our true heroes, but definitely Super Heroes!!!

So I was de-cluttering the other day and I found an underwater camera from Jimmy and my honeymoon in Hawaii. If you know me well enough or not at all you know that is my love. My classroom is even decorated in a Hawaiian beach theme. I was so excited to get the pictures developed and here they are. I hope that you can enjoy the "quality" of the camera, and feel the aloha spirit!

So Jimmy and I have been having a grand ol' time at Freedom Elementary. If you didn't know I'm in my second year of teaching 3rd grade and Jimmy is now the substitute PE teacher till ours comes back from maternity leave. Jimmy says he loves it, although I'm glad he won't be changing careers or any thing, but he has been doing an awesome job. The kids at school already love him and have been saying "Hi" to him in the halls and giving high-fives and everything. It's been fun saving gas money and going to work together even though there are a bunch of girls with crushes on the new PE teacher :) A few pics to follow :)

This weekend Jimmy and I celebrated our 18 month anniversary! Kinda cheezy, maybe, but we like the cheese! It's been a rather adventurous year and a half but a really good one. Jimmy surprised me with roses and a date night out at Carrabba's and a movie. I love you Jimmy. 18 months down, and eternity to go :)
